The city of Palmanova is well- known for her unique structure, which offers the visitor an insight into the innovations that the science of fortification has thought up over the centuries.
The Venetians built low, wide embankments needed to defend the town by the artillery in the late XVI century. Architects designed the walls in the shape of an arrow head, at the farthest point of each there was a rampart that was linked to the others by curtains. The city’s centre is Piazza Grande, a hexagonal heart enhancing this starred Renaissance town.
