Gorizia’s brand is its very uniqueness. A city that - more than any other - exemplifies the complex history and cultural ambiguity of Italy’s border regions.
Much of the pleasure in Gorizia derives from soaking in its colorful mishmash of influences, faded aristocratic ambience and charming, workaday atmosphere.
The medieval castle is the heart and symbol of the town. From here, the view sweeps over gentle expanses of hills and the entire town, where medieval, Baroque and 19th century architectures harmoniously co-exist. The Hapsburg bourgeoisie loved to stroll through the streets of the town’s centre, that’s why Gorizia was also called "the Nice of the Hapsburgs".
